Speaking to The San Pedro Sun, Deputy Mayor Severo Guerrero Jr explained that the SPTC is happy for the acquisition of the new machine since in the past the council had to depend on machinery from the Ministry of Works. "The acquisition of this machine is very significant because this new piece of equipment will ensure that the roads in San Pedro are maintained. With this roller we will be able to fix the road with hardcore material and the roller will be used to compact it into the ground in order to prevent pot holes from forming on the street," said Guerrero. According to the deputy Mayor, the heavy machinery that was brought to the island for the massive street rehabilitation a few months ago were not a part of the SPTC fleet, but the property of the Government of Belize. For that reason Guerrero said purchasing a smaller roller will help the council to be less dependent on the central government.
