Inclement weather forecast for the weekend

The Belize Tourism Board announced today that the Village Arts and Craft Expo that was scheduled for this weekend has been postponed until November first due to the inclement weather that is forecasted for the weekend. According to Forecaster, Michael Gentle, of the National Meteorological Service, since this morning, the country has been experiencing a tropical wave that is currently making its way over the country. But there is some additional bad news because while weather conditions will improve by Friday, a subsequent wave will affect the country on Saturday. Gentle explained the system in the Caribbean, saying that despite the expected downpour, further development of the wave is not likely.

Michael Gentle, Forecaster, Nat'l Met Service

"We are looking at a tropical wave going into the weekend, the later part of the weekend into early next week. It is expected to produce an increase in rainfall over the country. The national met service along with the hurricane center in Miami is monitoring the wave for possible development. As you can see there is some cloudiness over the eastern Caribbean, approaching the central Caribbean and it is associated with the tropical wave. However, during the next couple days, there are not expecting any significant development with it. However, the next three to five days, there is a low possibility of something developing out of it as it moves over the western Caribbean towards Yucatan and Belize."

"Sir, is this system responsible for the rains that we got today?"

Michael Gentle

"Okay, the rains we have today were associated with a tropical wave.the axis is going to cross the country later tonight. So we get a bit more showers from that wave tonight into early morning tomorrow. And then the showers taper off. However, the next tropical wave that we were talking about will approach the area Saturday night into Sunday. It has a low chance of developing during the weekend into early next week."

We'll have more on this in the weather report.
