The long-anticipated paving of the access road has been moving full speed ahead. Some portions have already been fully paved and others are in progress. In accordance with the design which takes into account the seasonal flooding that occurs in the wet-land area at the entrance of the village, a 300 foot long structure is being incorporated to permit water to effectively roll off without causing structural damage to the pavement.

The entire project, funded with a grant of $5 Million from the European Union, covers the paving of 4.5 miles of road which is the full length of the access road from the Southern Highway to Hopkins. The road is being elevated, the bridges widened, and culverts installed to manage flood waters and avoid deterioration of the paved surface.
