WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONEFISH (Macabi):
Some big bonefish this week, 2 bonefish were landed between 5 and 6 pounds! Several other boats reported numerous 3-5 pound fish every day. Other anglers went out and landed great numbers of bonefish (up to 25 in a day). In general, those looking for big bonefish can find them; and for those who like lots of action appreciate our 1-2 pound speed demons. Lots of first-time flats fishers got their first ever bonefish as well.
PERMIT (Palometta):
Rob started the week with some permit, Jess from Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures added another permit notch to her belt, Jason got one, Jim had a huge one on till they reached for the leader, and several others were hooked up and lost.
TARPON (Sabalo):
The tarpon were around but not quite as ready to eat as last week. (which goes flies against the small moon is better theory) Jimmy got a few, Steve landed 2 in a day, Lisa added 2 more to last week's fish total, Pete had a big one on for all the hard part but the 50-pound fish came unbuttoned on a late jump.
OTHER SPECIES:
Snook, cudas, snappers , grunts, spanish mackerel, and ladyfish.
GRAND SLAM:
No Grand slams this week.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONEFISH -
Christmas Island Special, Crazy charlies, Gotcha.
FOR PERMIT -
White raghead crab, Spawning shrimp, Merkin ( all tan), avalon.
FOR TARPON -
White toad, Black death, White deceiver, EP pinfish.
This Week's Summary:
The first annual Jim Klug photography school was a great success with anglers having a mix of fishing and expeditions combined with classroom study with Jim, Jess, and Bryan. Jim is the founder of Yellow Dog Fly Fishing Adventures as well as a well-published photographer.
