Attorney For Castro Brothers Defends Their Case Against Evidence That They Were Charged
Last night, we told you about the heap of trouble that UDP Minister Edmond Castro's sons, Jafari and Wasani, got into over the weekend. They had a run in with Belize City police in the early morning hours of last Friday. That ended by midday, when they were released, and only a few hours later, they were busted in Orange Walk with 89 cases of contraband beer. The contraband offenses have been settled out of court, but the public embarrassment for the Castro family is far from over because little by little, other documents detailing the police encounter are being released to the press. Last night we challenged Southside Commander Chester Williams with the electronic police report that was filed against the Castro brothers by a police officer requesting court action and stating that they were charged.

Malpractice Case Goes To Court of Appeal
Last week, we told you about the big judgments coming out of the Court of Appeal, and one case they heard during this session was a medical malpractice lawsuit brought against Dr. George Gough. Last year, Supreme Court Justice Courtney Abel handed down a judgment against him, ruling that he must pay his former patient, Alice Arana-Gillett, just over 52 thousand dollars. That's the award of damages that Justice Abel said that he owed her for a botched medical procedure he performed. That happened back in October of 2009, when she started suffering severe pain, and she was rushed to a private hospital. Dr. Gough was the doctor who took over the case, and he determined that she needed a surgery to remove her gall bladder. He decided that it should be laparoscopic surgery, and that she would be up and about in no time. He performed the surgery on her, and 2 days later, she started having severe complications. She went back to him, and he prescribed medication to do deal with the symptoms, and when that didn't work, he finally re-admitted her.
