Mitnal and Beliefs about the Afterlife
Mitnal is the Yucatec Maya name for the Underground known in K'iche' as Xibalba "The place of fright" . The lords of the Underground are representations of various forms of human suffering; they cause pain, sickness, fear, starvation, fear and finally death. The Popol Vuh has two leading death lords, but these two are really one: Both are called "Death," but while one is known as "One Death," the other is called "Seven Death." They were vanquished by the Hero Twins. In Yucatec Maya the leading lord is known as Yuum Cimil also known under various names such as Ah Puch . An Ah Puch is mentioned in the opening of the Book of Chilam Balam of Chumayel(Sacred Books of the Yucatec Maya) in passing as a ruler of the North, and one of the Xibalba attendants in the Popol Vuh is called Ahal Puh. The Maya had several forms of ancestor worship. They built figures containing ashes of the dead and brought them food on festival days. Alternatively, a temple could be built over an urn.

To avoid problems with Mr. Grumpy, we did move it and the new trash bin has found its place and will serve its purpose. Of note is that the trash bin was set on the street along 5th Avenue and not on Grumpy's property. Here is the Grumpy Fish Crossing trash bin and the White Rose. Thank you Diane Handy and Losita Lee. So far, we have set up 28 drums around town. 1 has been vandalized and the other just relocated. Thanks to Deputy Mayor Otto Riverol for coming out to give us a lending hand.
