Electricity hike due to deregulation in the peninsula area of Mexico

The cause of the increase in electricity has come as a result of deregulation in the peninsula area of Mexico. When the Electricity Giant CFE was splintered into several companies, the business model changed from a standard price to one that the market could afford. This means that electricity prices across Mexico vary and the most expensive areas are the coastal and tourism areas. Belize receives power from the Peninsula area which is the most heavily taxed markets. Ambrose Tillett, Director of Electricity, at the PUC clarified the issue further.
