A San Pedro resident is a free man tonight after his murder case which had kicked off before Justice Colin Williams fell apart in the Supreme Court. Forty-five-year-old Rafael Ramirez Calderon was accused and arraigned in 2015 for the May third, 2015 murder of San Pedro taxi-man, Dionicio Trujillo.

Calderon was on remand for more than four years and on Monday walked out the courtroom a free man, when the crown for the D.P.P.'s office, entered a case of nolle prosequi against him in the middle of his trial. The trial, by judge without jury, had started before Justice Colin Williams last week, but was discontinued when the main witness could not be located.

Allegations made by the crown against Calderon were that he killed Trujillo because he suspected he was having an affair with his wife. According to police, while Calderon was detained in the cell block at the San Pedro Police Station along with John Thomas, he allegedly confessed to about the murder. It is further alleged that Calderon hired Trujillo and lured him to a dirt road where he allegedly stabbed him multiple times and allegedly cut his throat. In the trial, Calderon was represented by Attorney, Leslie Hamilton while the crown was represented by Senior Crown Counsel, Shanice Lovelle from the D.P.P.'s office.
