Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Honourable Manuel Heredia Jr. has denied ongoing reports of a private flight from Texas, USA arriving in Belize early in July with potential investors headed to Ambergris Caye. Prime Minister Right Honourable Dean Barrow initially singled out the alleged flight as a possible origin in the spike of COVID-19 cases on the island, but he later retracted his statement and apologized. However, on the island and across the country, many people remain skeptical. The story that the flight did arrive and that investors visited several areas on the island, including a fishing tournament, spread like wildfire and caused much alarm and finger-pointing.

Ya'axche' Yetel Yuum k'ax
The elders tell stories about the Lords of the forest who look like men. They put their clothes and hats and live in the forest. They take care of the "milperos" (men who work in the cornfields). They also help the children so they are not tricked by the X'tabai who normally comes out when the night falls. Then she goes and sits under the Ceiba tree and waits for men to pass. When someone starts to get nearby, she starts to call them. That is how she tricks them.

What are Expats like in Belize?
"Expat" is short for "expatriate," a person who has chosen to live somewhere other than his country of origin. While you may understand this and know that Belize has a sizable number of expats, you may be curious about what these expats are like. "Are they mostly professionals? Residents? A mix of both?" For the answer to this string of questions, simply read on. Belize's expat community includes a melting pot of nationalities and professions from across the planet. Some of these expats used to be prominent in the world of business, others run a small business and some are pensioners who left their blue or white collar jobs behind them (along with a fair amount of their cares). No matter what they did before coming to Belize, all of these expats appreciate Belize and everything it has to offer, including the "Qualified Retirement Program," real estate prices and a variety of offshore services.
