The inclement weather we have been experiencing since Monday continues into Friday, as Hurricane Eta is expected to retreat into the Gulf of Honduras as it moves away from Belize. A flood warning is still in effect for parts of the country and residents along flood prone areas are being advised to seek higher ground. This evening, forecaster Crystal Rosalez gave us the latest read on the movement of the weather system and its effect on the country.

On the Phone: Crystal Rosalez, Forecaster, National Met Service

"We've been experiencing showers and periods of rain and a few thunderstorms over the country, mostly the central and southern districts have been getting the heavier activities. Throughout the day we have amounts of one to six inches in some areas, especially over the southern districts and the Maya mountains and we do expect the rains to continue into tomorrow and a gradual decrease starting tomorrow night as Eta continues to move away from the country."

"Insofar as the flooding situation, I know that there has been an increase in water levels for instance in the western part of the country."

On the Phone: Crystal Rosalez

"We do expect, well the flood warning is still in effect and with the rains that are expected to continue and the wash-off. As a result, we do, you know the flooding will, in some areas, will be more in terms of the amount of water coming down. So we ask people to continue being vigilant and move to higher ground if possible, sooner rather than later."

Isani Cayetano

"What can we expect in the days ahead in terms of the continuing rainfall?"

On the Phone: Crystal Rosalez

"Eta will move, well the center of Eta is expected to move into the Gulf of Honduras which is just east of the country and gradually move away as it continues on a northeasterly track into the western Caribbean Sea. Upon doing so, some moisture will still linger over the country and rains will continue into tomorrow night and, as I said, there will be an eventual decrease starting tomorrow night into Saturday morning. So by Saturday we should be experiencing better weather. We still have a small craft warning in effect as well, so operators of small crafts should remain in safe harbor."
