Three Corona vaccines are almost ready for use. The Moderna vaccine has an effectiveness of 94.5%. Pfizer and BioNTech 90% and the vaccine from AstraZeneca and Oxford did not release any data yet.

The Pfizer vaccine has a major disadvantage compared to the other two: it needs to be kept at temperatures as low as minus 80 degrees Celsius. Moderna’s vaccine needs to be kept at minus 20 degrees Celsius (the temperature of a regular freezer) during distribution and 2-8 degrees (fridge) after.

The AstraZeneca vaccine will only cost a few dollars, Pfizer will cost US$19.50 per dose and Moderna is going to charge US$32 to 37 per dose for its coronavirus vaccine for some customers, under cheaper “pandemic pricing”.

All three vaccines must be administered in two doses, but the time between those doses differ: with Pfizer there is a three week interval, at AstraZeneca and Moderna four weeks.
