Right now is traditionally the peak of the tourism season in Belize, but the COVID-19 pandemic has shattered the industry. As the country attempts to recover, Minister of Tourism Anthony Mahler says they are anticipating that cruise tourism will restart in late May of this year.

"The industry is way below where it should be, but we have good signs for the months to come for overnight and for cruise. I had a lengthy discussion with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association on Wednesday and they are saying that cruising should come back somewhere late May or early June. Previous months when we had that discussion with them, they were talking about October or November so that's a good signal for us."
