For days we've been telling you about the deadlock over the broadcasting of the Tokyo Olympics. For the first time in Belize's television history since the 80's, the summer games are not being broadcasted on TV. Well, there's some progress to report tonight - and just in time for the track and field events which start on Thursday.

As we've been reporting, the local rights holder, which is Concorde Media Group - has been unable to reach an agreement with the Belize Cable Television Operators Association. And that's why it's not showing on TV. The rights for these kind of global sporting events usually cost into the tens of thousands of US dollars - we know because we've paid that in the past. Well, the Concord Group says the BCTVOA never even tried to negotiate with them, and instead they went to the regional rights holder - which reportedly quoted them a price in excess of 40 grand US dollars.

So that was the end of that and the bottom line is that all NBC channels are blocked out on your cable television feed.

But, tonight, in a generous move, Concord has announced that it is opening up an online platform for any Belizean to see the Olympics free of charge. It's called Omnistreamz, a mobile app and online portal - that gives you four channels of global Sportsmax olympic programming and NBC. All you have to do is log on, enter your email address and shortly after you get a mail with a username and password for 30 day free trial, which covers the three week Olympic games.

Additionally, in an agreement with Sportsmax and Concorde Channel 7 will be offering a daily half an hour digest recapping the Caribbean region's performance in the games.
