As we showed you on the news last night - there was a shooting in downtown San Pedro on Sunday evening - which left a man critical after a bullet grazed him to the head. There was also a stabbing that same day which was not reported.
And while it was a violent incident - played out on a crowded street - in Belize's #1 Tourist Hub - the fact is that over the past two plus years - San Pedro has only reported one homicide - possibly the lowest among major municipalities.
And the man responsible for that is Superintendent Chris Noble - he took over two years ago after San Pedro's murder rate spiked - and sent violent crime into an almost complete flatline.
But, now - it seems - after Sunday's violent incidents - the police senior command wants Noble gone. And, he seems only too ready to go. Sources tell us that Noble - a 30 year veteran of the department has responded to the suggestion of a change of command - by indicating that when he leaves, he won't be coming back.
Reports suggest Noble wants his abrupt decision now to highlite low morale within the department. Noble is currently the commander of Region Four and there has been no news of any official transfer or change of command.
