This issue has been addressed by residents and tourists alike, to both the town board and other local politicians. IMMISSING's poem is right on in expressing how many of us feel about the island's traffic situation. I think some foresight is useful here, just as it is anywhere major changes are occuring. Its called progress, sure, but planned/beneficial progress is intelligent and in the end, self-serving in the best way. That island is very small. It simply is not going to capacitate its current load of combustion-engine motor vehicles and remain a relatively safe and natural place to live or visit. Speed plus heavy traffic have already proven to be dangerous and lethal to people living there. As for a "vote" by the residents-most of the local people walk or ride bikes. I believe the owners of the trucks and cars are in the minority if I am not mistaken.
