Has anyone heard from Gaz?

Also, I'm eager to (at the very least!) send a big check towards the relief effort, but want to know where it will do the most good.

as ever, (and yet sad as hell)

Hi Ginny, yeah, he's ok. I read something in here somewhere...

PS does your hubby have any construction material connections, and way to get the stuff to Dallas?

big question, i know!

He posted a message on a scuba forum, look at http://www.scubadiving.com/talk/read.php3?num=3&id=144727&thread=144727

he said he expect to be back to normal mid october (this was posted on 7th Oct.)

here's that message:
Hi Everyone

This is the first chance I have had to get online since Keith visited us.

Hurricane Keith dealt a blow to Ambergris Caye but not a lethal one, the main problem right now is getting electricity and telephones back on, as the 140mph winds blew down all the electric poles and telephone wires.

Wind came in from the west which is from behind the island and while I have not had a chance to dive yet I do not anticipate damage to the divesites as seas were nothing like when we had Mitch pass by a few years ago.

Unfortunately the poorest people suffered the worst and most of the shacks and plywood houses to the back of the island were destroyed.

Most all of the hotels suffered minor damage including my 4 untis at Paradise Villas which had some drywall collapse due to water coming in form the roof.

I anticipate once power is restored most hotels will be back up and running within a week or so.

Mata Chica and Ramons suffered quite a bit more damage due to having thatch roofind which of course blew away with the high winds.
This however can quickly be repaired without too much down time.

I suffered minor damage to my boats, I am happy to report the diveshop and dock is as it was before the storm as is my home.

Its been a long week but I expect to be back to normal mid October.

All the best

Gaz

Hi Ginny

I am right here been very busy cleaning up and getting things back to normal as quickly as we can.

As everyone has said the place is cleaning up very quickly and again the power and telephones are the biggest jobs.

Front st has power and the street is looking sharp, hard telephones lines are also back on on front st and crews are still working diligently to get everyone back up and runnig asap.

In case your wondering Playa Blanca made it through Ok You gained a little beach, my house was spared and suffered minor damage as did the Keens house (windmill).

Be good

Hey Gaz,
How did those little sub-rockets hold up? I never got a chance to pilot one of those damn things, but I'm sure you can use the business when things clear up...glad you came out of it relatively unscathed.
