Hi! My husband and I will be in Ambergris Caye in June. Hubby wants to fish from shore. He doesn't fly fish. Is there good fishing from shore? Any recommendations for bait? He has ocean rods and bass rods, should he take both? Should he bring artificial and spinner bait? What kind of hooks do you recommend?
I want to snorkel. Do the tour guides pick you up at your hotel or do you have to go to them?
Thanks to everyone in advance for your generous hospitality.

He can fish off the docks, sardines are great bait, he can bring his bass rod, some spinners and artificials will work. Your guides will pick you up at your dock if you arrange it beforehand or you can go to them. Some docks will not let people fish from them for whatever reason, but they will be posted as such.

Thanks papashine, very helpful. Are sardines sold as bait or do you have to catch your own? Are there many places to buy bait?

If you see someone with a cast net, ask them if you can buy some from him, also some of the little stores in town carry them, but not all the time, kind of hit and miss..I think Capt Sharks in town sell ballyhoo, chop them up and they will work. You will need access to a freezer to keep them if you find any quantity.

Buy a few raw shrimp from most any local restaurant. Much better bait than sardines... small pieces... stays on hook better and the fish are crazy over them!

Great idea Jesse. Thank you! Does anyone have recommendations for the type of hooks to use? When is the best time to fish?

Stay small... light tackle... 4 lb. test...mornings and evenings. Any dock that allows fishing. Some resorts outlaw fishing cause people leave bait and hooks all over the dock. No good for swimmers and sunners.
