Just some info...I went to donate blood today and they would not let me because I had traveled to Belize within the last 12 months. I was told that only Belize City was not a malaria risk and that because I had gone to other parts I wasn't able to donate my blood. I was told I had to wait 12 months since travel....oh well, I guess I'll never donate, because I will be in AC again this JULY!

Yup- that's true. Simply being in the country is enough to get you blackballed. It makes sense, however, as how are they to know where you went or didn't? Even though you are an honest upstanding person, there are enough nut cases out there that precaution is mandatory.

They are not picking on BZ, it's true of every country on "the list"

(edited for typos b4 I get yelled at laugh )

Do we need to get any kind of shots before we head down to AC?

Nothing is required, but CDC recommends a couple of vaccines. check out below site.

http://www.cdc.gov/travel/camerica.htm

It's always a good idea to get immunization for Hep A and Tetanus even you aren't travelling anyway.

We got the shots and have done the malaria pills actually take 2 tomorrow...I was all panicky about the shots and the malaria but honestly I would only make sure my shots are up to date next time. Your going to get there and the last thing your going to worry about is the diseases. ITs just to beautiful to look at to worry about something that probably won't happen. But Like Ktny333 said check the cdc and use your own judgement.
