Easy on the smartass comments. I've been attacked by a bullshark and kept a calf as a souviner.

It happened around the eastside of St.Lucia. The day before I cried wolf. I staged a fake attack and freaked out my fella cohorts. I felt terrible for pulling such a shanannigan. That was back in my party hard days of staying up 3 or 4 days at a time. Anyway , now I have a crazy leg from the accident. Hence, my nickname.

Jesse is correct...never. Obviously, being cautious should be number one. Don't wear jewelry and don't try and put your hand in front of their mouth while they're feeding.

Our tour operator told us that they don't go to Shark Ray Alley anymore because a snorkeler was bitten on the ear two years ago when another boat started baiting the sharks while there were people in the water.

I don't know if this is a common or rare occurance but, as a novice snorkeler, I did not argue with his decision.

...and besides, I'm not comfortable with the idea of baiting these animals to lure them in so that tourists can 'hug' them, anyway.

Ask Stumpie if they bite (never shove sardines up the legs of your suit.)
