I'm coming to Belize for the summer. I've never been there before and I'm hoping to get a chance to learn to kiteboard in warm water, the water is very cold here in California. Is kiting very popular down there?
While we were on Caye Caulker in February we watched some extraordinary Kiteboarding. Had never seen it before and was thrilled by it. There must be a centre there, but unfortunately I cannot advise you where it is. Hopefully someone else on this forum will be able to. Would love to learn to do it one day.
Collyk, Have you ever been to Rhodes? (Wonderful island with easy charters from the UK) Anyway, it is one of our favorite destinations and kiting is really catching on out at windy Prassonissi on the far end of the island. The narrow sand penninsula juts out into the sea - on one side the windsurfers rule, on the other kite surfing is king.
Hi Gypsy, when I was there in April, I saw this guy kiteboarding near Banyan Bay. Not sure if he rented equipment there or not, but it was very cool. May be worth a look though. And it was the first time I saw it too, again, very cool.
Hi USNA73. No I have not been to Rhodes. Funnily enough one of my partner's work colleagues is a kite boarder and recently returned from boarding in the Carribean. He is now finding it really depressing doing it in the cold UK waters.
While I would love to learn to kiteboard one day, right now my priority is to learn more diving skills (I certified in Belize). Unfortunately I only have the time and money to learn one thing at a time, but I have the rest of my life, so no hurry. But thanks for the advice. I suspect that any kiteboarding I learn will be in Belize as I am planning to spend more and more time there.
