We're coming to AC July 7-12 from Asheville NC and with all of the talk re. mosquitoes and heat I think we want something on the beach. Is the south end best this time of year? A friend stayed at Ramon's and really enjoyed it, any places that offer little villa type place on the beach? As for what we like, we like fun during the day and quiet at night (after 11). We're going to visit ruins and decompress! Any recommendations about where to stay would be appreciated, we like the idea of not being too far from town. Price is only important as it pertains to value, not everything that's expensive is worth it!

We stayed at the Palms a few weeks ago. Very, very nice condos. Next door to Ramon's. Depends on whether you would rather have a resort atmosphere or would rather have the extra space you get with a condo.

If your main goal is to visit ruins, you may want to consider staying on the mainland - San Ignacio area (inland) or even the southern coast (for beach) like Hopkins or Placencia. No real ruins of note on the island.

We're vacationing in NC from July 1-16! You'll love San Pedro. We stayed at Banana Beach for a little better than 2 weeks last September and are returning this September - about 2 miles from the center of town. Great price, great accomodations, which included a full breakfast each morning, and we liked that they have a good beach and 2 pools. We also lazed around a lot and took tours on the mainland on three different days. Easy to get to by water taxi or short flight and easily doable in one day.

What part of NC are you coming to? If you've never been to the mountains I highly recommend it. I'm a NY transplant (damn yankee) for 25 years now and there are times it's still like being on vacation.

We're in Charlotte for 4 days for a conference I'm attending, then we've rented a house on Ocracoke for a week. That leaves us about 4 days (couple at the beginning and then at the end) to do some driving around - I'd like to see some furniture as I've read there are some great deals to be had. Also interested in what NC has to offer in terms of "wine country" as I've read a little about their wine production. Any suggestions? especially interested in things to see between Charlotte and Cedar Island. Thankfully, California is so "new" we don't even rate being called yankees! wink
