Belize is Prominently Featured in the May & June issues of
Leading Publications in the US
--Belize City, Monday, June 27, 2005 Belize has been notably featured in five leading magazines in the United States in the May/June, 2005 issues, which are currently on the newsstands and being circulated to their respective readership.
Belize was featured in a 3-page article in Endless Vacation. The article was written by Theresa Joyce who was in Belize last year on the August Press Trip. Her article entitled, “La Isla Bonita” showcased her visit to Ambergris Caye, her snorkel trip at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, and her visit to Caracol Maya Site. Endless Vacation is a bi-monthly publication exclusively for Resort Condominiums International (RCI) members that provides information, practical vacation ideas for time-share owners. Focusing on vacation travel in North America, Endless Vacation reaches 1.7 million subscribers who are passionate leisure travelers and affluent, involved consumers.
Belize was also featured in a 4-page article in Healing Lifestyles & Spas. The article was written by Amanda Pressner and was entitled “A Rainforest Remedy”. The author spoke of her journey to Western Belize to meet with Maya healer, Don Heriberto Cocum who had also apprenticed under the powerful Don Elijio Panti. Healing Lifestyles & Spas has a circulation of 50,000 and introduces readers to activities that improve health and quality of life. Articles explore natural foods, holistic medicine, bodywork, healing therapies, skincare and travel.
Belize was showcased in a 2-page article in Men’s Journal entitled, Caye Caulker, Belize – Divers and kiteboarders are exploring this island hideaway. The author spoke of backpackers paving the way to making Caye Caulker quietly flourishing in the tourism industry, with countless guides and diveshops, almost all locally owned. The author also spoke of snorkeling and scuba diving on the nearby reefs of Caye Caulker as one of the island’s biggest attraction. Men’s Journal has a circulation of 664,359 and is edited for adventurous, active men with an interest in obtaining and maintaining an adventurous and active lifestyle, both physically and mentally.
Furthermore, Belize was featured in a nine-page spread in Sports Illustrated magazine. The title of the spread was Belize – Take a deep breath – it’s time for a little snorkeling, a little scuba diving… and a lot of swimsuit modeling. Sports Illustrated is a popular weekly American sports magazine owned by Time Warner. It has over 3 million subscribers and is read by 23 million adults each week. It was the first magazine with circulation over one million to win the National Magazine Award for General Excellence twice. Its “swimsuit issue is now an annual publishing event that generates its own television shows, videos and calendars.
Additionally, Belize has been recognized as Best Adventure Destination by Caribbean Travel & Life Magazine for 2005, as featured in its May 2005 issue. Caribbean Travel & Life magazine conducts an annual poll that recognizes “excellence in a wide range of categories important to vacation travelers.” The poll looks at various travel experiences in different Caribbean destinations to include ultimate spas, diver destinations, and small, medium and large resorts, to the region’s friendliest people, favorite bars and the finest local beers. Belize competed with other Caribbean destinations such as Dominica, Jamaica and St. John. Furthermore, also mentioned in this issue is the Lodge at Chaa Creek which was awarded as one of the Best Eco Resorts in the Caribbean.
