CASA DE CAMBIOS TO CLOSE


Central Bank has announced that the Casa de Cambios will be closed beginning next Monday. Beginning Monday, the sale and purchase of foreign currency can be conducted only by domestic commercial banks, the Postmaster general, the Accountant General, and Belize Global Travel Services. Anyone else dealing in foreign currency is subject of a fine of up to ten thousand dollars or imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

What on earth is going on with this country???

Please pardon my ignorance. My wife and I are arriving 7/09. I'm not sure what this post means. Should we convert spendings to Belize dollars before we get to Belize? Will ATM's still be available? Will US dollars still be accepted by merchants or will it be a crime after Monday? How about credit cards?

Vegasbill: This will not effect your vacation...you can spend your US currency everywhere in Belize...exchange would not be necessary and ATM's and credit cards should have no effects to this change. Have a great time!!! Bill
