I am planning on coming to AC August 5th - 12th for my first trip and plan to be diving. My wife and I are experienced divers looking for nice local spots, preferably with a friendly guide and smaller groups.
Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

Hi,

I dove with Protech (contact Peter [email protected] ). They were extremely helpful, we dove in small groups and they seem to cater for a lot of very serious divers. I cannot say they are the 'best' because I have not dived with anyone else and I am sure there will be other recommendations, but my own view is that they are very professional and good fun.

I always dive with Amigos Del Mar, they are probably the biggest Dive operator on the Island, however I've never been on a overcrowded boat, except maybe the Blue Hole trip which is a all day trip that they do 2 or 3 times a week.
The thing I like most about them is they take care of your gear as if it were their own.
Amigos has 24hr. security so you don't have to haul your gear back & forth. They also provide refreshments & fruit in between dives.
I've never been diving with anyone else in my 12 yrs. of diving with them,I've taken many groups diving with Amigos.
If I were to try someone else, I would try Patojo's. I have heard many good things about them, a smaller dive operator with their own hotel right on the beach, The Tides Inn.
Have a great trip!!!

Ditto on Protech. Had a great experience with them for two weeks last summer. Most days we only had 6-8 divers on the boat. We are returning to SP 8/4 - 8/18 and will be diving with them again, so maybe we will see you. Enjoy! 12 days and counting...mobunny cool

Hi I have to agree 100% with JDOG. Having done 40 odd dives with Amigos during my 3 visits to AC I have never had any problems, the briefings are very professional (Tony and Renee are particularly good), dives are nice and slow and bottom time is maximized. Most dives are at least 45 minutes. For the 2 tank morning dive they pick you up at your local dock about 9am you are in back on land for your surface interval about 10-10.15, fresh fruit is waiting for you there is also plenty of water on board the boat. You are back on land after your 2nd dive about 12.30 and you can start drinking your ice cold Belikins!!

I was in AC two weeks ago and took my 3 Teenage kids Amigos were great with the kids (who had not dived for over a year), very carful and makde sure they were confortable and relaxed.

Blue Hole trips can get a little busy..a lot of the other Dive shops use Amigos for the Blue Hole trip since they have the big 40 odd foot boat. There were 17 divers on the Blue Hole trip but the boat was comfortable. I was very impressed with their Blue Hole trip. The dive is a very technical deco dive (you dive to about 135 feet. They were very strict with the dive telling everyone to ignore their computer alarms (we dive as a group) 2 dive masters per group of 8 people. Very reassuring and professional

We will be diving with them again in November and February and beyond

Thanks for the information. I searched for Protech diving Belize and found a web page from Exotic Caye Beach Resort which is where we will be staying. Examining the Exotic Caye website, however, I did not find a link to the Protech page. I wonder if they are no longer located at the dive shop at Exotic Caye. Does anyone know if they are or where they are located? I found a website for Amigos Del Mar. Thanks for your recommendations.

Thanks, Chris & klcman, you're ahead of me! Our's is a new website for reasons many people now know. Contact us at "[email protected]", or phone on +501-226-3008. Not all search engine links are working yet, but they will soon. I'm new at the game of setting up websites!

I'm not new at the game of diving, though. The reality is that Amigos is a great dive center and I'm happy to use their big boat for atoll trips. There's no need to book at this time of the year - walk up the beach, check us both out and make up your own mind. Or maybe try diving with both of us and see whose style suits you better.

Thanks to all of you. I am sure that I will stop at Protech and see if we can work out a schedule for some dives.
