Hi, All. To get newbie snorklers acclimated, do you think Caye Caulker or Mexico Rocks would be better? From some research, it seems that Mexico Rocks has great coral, but not many fish, and CC is the opposite.

Opinions welcomed.
cool

If you don't swim like me, the 3-4' dept at Mexico Rocks is great. But my favorite spot was at Robles Point!! You could go in off the island and not worry about getting in and off a boat.
I just got back Saturday, and if you haven't been warned about the mosquitoes. Take heed, we took 2 cans of mosquitoe spary and used it ALL!!!
They are horrible!

Novice snorkeler--do not worry. You can snorkel off Caye Caulker and be just fine. Didn't go to Mexico Rocks, but went on Seaduced with Elito and he guided the group. In fact, he even held on to one person via life ring who was feeling unsure of her skills. There are life jackets, if you want them, but last week, the snorkeling was easy, no strong currents, etc. The payoff was WORTH IT!!! Lots of coral, lots of fish. My advice is to buy your waterproof cameras in US. You will definitely want more than one!

We found Mexico Rocks very pleasant as a drift snorkel. The fish were smaller species but very colorful.

My favorite was Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Reserve with Alfonso Graniel. He is very knowledgable and we felt secure with him looking after our group. Life jackets are available, but can actually slow you a bit in the water (lose streamlining I guess). You start in very shallow until everyone is very comfortable with the masks and snorkels. Soon you will be on your way and it's so amazing you are captivated. It was so good, I did this trip twice!
