Went for lunch, ended up staying the night.

Incredible, amazing. Close to my idea of heaven (as long as they take AMEX up there.)

The level of service is uncomparable. The executive chef is out of this world. The units all open (folding cabana doors) up facing the Caribbean with the utmost privacy. Nobody can see you. Each villa has it's own pool and dock. Ours had an infinity edge. Each villa has it's own "house man" catering to your every wish. The island is private. Nobody is allowed on the island without permission. You have a six page DVD and CD menu. Everything is included, food, liquor, drinks, beer, except for wine. The furnishings are top notch. I sank like two feet into the feather bed. The house man closes your unit at dusk and turns on the A/C. A very A-list experience.

Ouch, prices went up. It used to be $895 for the cheapest room a couple of years ago. If you have the money though...

I stayed there a few years back on a FAM trip and SIN is right, the experience is out of this world (at least for us po folk.)

Expensive - yes, worth it - yes. All your meals/snacks and all you can drink.

With taxes, gratuities, trips, premium drinks and wines and other add-ons, realistically the cost is US$2000+ a night. Cayo Espanto has great marketing.

My family and I stayed there for a few nights and enjoyed it, though I think places like Caye Chapel Island Resort and Turtle Inn offer an extraordinary experience and real beaches for fewer $$$.
