Just put some flights on hold with FF miles. March 31 - April 9, 2006. Have many questions, but here are my initial ones:
1. Is 9 nights too long? We will split between inland and AC... maybe 5 nights on AC

2. Is this a nice time of year to come or will it be rainy season? I was frankly surprised to get FF tickets at this time (especially since it is weekend travel). Can anyone think of a reason why this time might not be ideal in Belize?

Thanks for helping with my intro questions!

If anything, it's not long enough. You could easily spend three weeks on the mainland and not begin to see everything.

April is a nice time to visit, though it is usually hot inland -- April is normally the hottest (and driest) month of the year.

You were probably able to get FF space because it is so far off. Plus, Easter is not until April 16, so avoiding the Easter crush.

Our 1st time we went for 8 days, now we go for at least 2 weeks, and it's still not enough time! But don't have enough vacation time to be there any longer.

I would have killed for 9 days. Too many ruins, attractions, and most importantly, bars --- too little time. Have a blast!

I will have a Belikin -- put it on klcman's tab.

My first trip was 7 days, my second within 6 months, was 11 days, and since then haven't had a trip of shorter duration, most of them are 3 weeks plus. I even rented an apartment for a while. You'll be wishing your holiday was 14 days, I'm guessing.

Wow, sounds like a resounding "NO" that nine nights is not too long. That's what I thought. Now for my second question... thinking of dividing it up like this: 4 nights inland/5 nights AC, or 3 nights inland/6 nights AC. We'll most likely be doing open water referral dives to get certified for scuba, so I believe we'll need two days of diving for that.

Inland Belize question: Where to go? San Ignacio? Husband and I want to go cave tubing, do the Belize Zoo, see one of the ruins (Lamanai), and maybe do something else animal related (nature hike) or maybe ziplining. Based on that, can anyone make a great lodge recommendation (or recommend at Travel Agent?). I've seen Chaa Creek, Blacaneaux (sp) and some of the others... they look really beautiful. Just don't know which one is the best for what we want to do. Thanks again.

Lissa, if you're diving, then you won't want to leave AC. My husband and I did our open water cert. via referral last year. We landed Saturday, did our first 2 dives Sunday and completed on Monday. We stayed for 10 days - and it wasn't long enough. We return in 17 days (WOO HOO!!!) for another 10 days, then 2 weeks next year.

(FYI, I know there are other threads for this, but Jim out of Amigos Del Mar is a wonderful instructor.)

I haven't stayed on the mainland yet, so I can't help you there. But the people, weather, scenery and diving are nothing short of spectacular on AC.

Hmmm. Alright, I was hesitant to spend too much time traveling to San Ignacio (I've heard it takes a few hours to drive from the airport?). What about doing two nights somewhere like Jaguar Paw, from which we can cave tube and do the zoo, and then go to AC for 7 nights... and we can do lamanai from there on a day trip. I am really lost on how to plan this trip, so any advice will help. I AM SURE, however, that we want to split the trip between AC and the mainland. Thanks

A day trip to Lamanai would be a hell of a long day from Jaguar Paw (having driven from Lamanai to Jaguar Paw back in '00). Best to spend 2 or 3 nights at Lamanai Outpost or Chan Chich followed by 2 or 3 nights in the San Ignacio area and then 4 or 5 nights on AC. With 9 nights that will give you a good first exposure to Belize. If you do it that way you'll probably end up with the bug and be back next year, and the next....

P.S. San Ignacio is only about 90 minutes from the airport if you take the Burrell Boom road.
