Lucy and she broke a couple of ribs that I remember. Dolphins are social creatures and we figured, since she was alone most of the time, that she was an outcast amongst the dolphin community for some reason. The Swim with Dolphins on Spanish Lookout Caye was approved and project and construction are moving ahead, like it or not.

Irm and I once spotted a dolphin in front of Ramon's (between the docks.) Last August fellow guests at Mata Rocks saw two playing by the pier early one morning. that same trip a dolphin lead our boat in shallow water from Mata Rocks to the Protech dock on our morning dive pick up. The best though was when we dropped for our 2nd dive out by one of the atolls and there were two dolphins swimming in circles, clicking away. Amazing. mo

More dolphin stories - More dolphin stories! Lucy was a social outcast. They really do have human characteristics!

Had one follow me through Port 'o Stuck right between the hulls of the cat I was sailing. Went down to the rear steps and sat right beside it for a couple of minutes. I've seen many dolphins and manatees in my travels around the waters of Belize. The biggest group was on the way back from a dive at the Aquarium, had to be 20 or 30 of them and they chased the boat for about 5 minutes. One guy kept doing rolling jumps beside the boat and was coming up as high as the flybridge (Miss Mel.)

"the name of the island(Sand Boar?) but it was the one with the old lighthouse. Several people swam with her near the dock, I delined due to the proximity of the outhouses on the dock"

What island is this? There are outhouses on the dock?

One encounter-On a sailboat not far from the Placencia reef, dolphins as far as the eye could see, hundreds and hundreds of them. We all jumped in, 4 dolphins encircled a friend 20 ft down and whirled over, around, up and down around him, like they were weaving a web encasing him, til he got to the surface. Blew all of our collective, experianced and sometimes jaded minds. I see them qute often, but this was an unforgettable gift.

Amanda & KWIBMF, you are right about the location and the name of the dolphin. We did the Wave Dancer a couple of times in the early 90's and on every dive at Lighthouse Reef "Honey" would make an appearance. The staff would limit the number of people in the water with her but she never tired of playing and being the center of attention. Thanks for bring back the memories!!
