I agree. Is Chantel waiting for reinforcements?
I don't like the looks of this.
Anyone?

From weather service:as of 7pm CST
CHANTAL IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 14 MPH... KM/HR. ALTHOUGH THE CENTER WILL CROSS THE COAST NEAR THE MEXICO/BELIZE BORDER WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO...MOST OF THE HEAVIEST RAINS AND STRONGEST WINDS NORTH AND EAST OF THE CENTER WILL NOT MOVE ONSHORE FOR ANOTHER 6 TO 12 HOURS.
MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 70 MPH...115 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN STRENGTH IS LIKELY PRIOR TO LANDFALL...BUT CHANTAL IS EXPECTED TO WEAKEN AS IT CROSSES THE YUCATAN PENINSULA DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
I don't know....seems like there is a long way to go here.
with uncertain results.

the dang thang is split into three, too much stem cell debate in the air, now the storms are cellular dividing...

the official folks are totally ignoring the stuff to the south and east, so that's good...

and the latest BW/ GOES VIS satellite shot
http://kauai.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc-bin/tc_home

(click on chantal, then click twice on the right hand image, not the tracking map)

looks like its going to pieces everywhere but south and east, and doesn't show much vortex action there anymore, just a slight depression...

So far the Majuhaul areas seems to be fairing well.
From a source there:
Rex said that it's a pretty good storm, but so far nothing like a hurricane ... although
it appears the white zone is now right on top of him!
refering to the map we're looking at.
It's gotta make some serious headway AWAY for me to feel anything but nerves.

That link on the Belize page takes one to the same source of into, but the map is a little smaller and the TIME IS MORE UP TO DATE! http://wwwghcc.msfc.nasa.gov/GOES/goes8conusir.html
Don't know the reason for the seeming delay compared to the other, but still workin'
