Hi Everyone - great board; awesome advice! We are heading to AC end Dec/Early Jan and the count down is finally on! From reading some of your posts it sounds like one of the 'must do's' is Sunday BBQ at BC's. We only have one Sunday on AC which happens to be Jan 1; does anyone know if they'll be open for the BBQ since it's New Year's Day?

For New Year's Eve are there any events that require buying tickets in advance, or is the laid back approach of take it as it comes, bar hopping the way to go?

We are on the island for just under two weeks and want to fit in some day trips but not go crazy over booking ourselves - flaking on the beach must not be ignored! The three main excursions that seem to peak our interest are:
1. Fly fishing for bone fish
2. Day trip to the Blue Hole for snorkeling
3. Day trip to Lamanai
I'm sure these questions have been asked and answered many times before, but any current favorite guides for the above? Also, any day trips that really shouldn't be missed other than the above?

Last question; since we are coming down during peak tourist season, is it recommended that we book these day trips before we arrive, or is it pretty easy to get space on a trip if you just book a day or two in advance once on AC?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Do you have time to spend 1-2 days in San Ignacio? The most amazing tour I have ever done in Central America is the ATM caves, you hike through incredible caves, it is really an experience.

I was there last New Year's. You did not need tickets in advance for anything/anywhere. My guess (and only a guess) is BC's will be open on New Year's Day...most restraunts/bars are open new year's day. In fact, I bet it is open and one of the busiest days there.

It is many tours/diving/snorkling/etc that are closed. It is the only day in Belize that most are off for work that day and things close.

I remember spending New Year's Day having Michilada's at Pier's Lounge and eating lobster dinner at the Reef Restraunt with my boyfriend so I know those two places are definately open!
I remember Cannibals was open too and rehab.
