Similar info from my wife's uncle in Mango Creek/Independence. Lots of roof damage and some houses gone. His house shook terribly; but stayed up. He has six families with him.
Nazarene Highschool, which had people there for shelter, lost its roof. At approx. 10 p.m. they were experiencing high winds; but the worst seemed to have passed. Still, the full extent of damage won't be known until day-break.

Roving radio reporter reports 20 feared lost with 8 survivors off boat "Vendora" which overturned in Bgc port.
Additional loss of life from another boat "sea........." also reported with 6 bodies recovered and 11 missing.
It is not clear if these two incidents are the same boat. Both happened in port of bgc.
In Cayo, heavy rain, light winds for last 4 hrs. River starting to raise slowly.

11.30 pm Roving radio reporter
Second boat lost at bGc was the "Wave Band" with 17 feared lost. 6 bodies recovered so far.
I personally have a suspicion this may be the same incident as everything is very confused. I hope so.
Hopkins reporting no damage and road open.

Marty or Frank: Do you have any idea where the boat(s) were coming in from at that late hour? I read earlier in the thread that it's thought to be a tourist boat... it seems odd that people were just coming in to Big Creek at that late hour? Thanks for the continous updates... wonderful news about Hopkins, but sad news on Seine Bight, Independence and Placencia. Please do pass on any news re: relief efforts in days to come. I dont know of any tourist boat called the "Wave Band", could they mean the "Wave Dancer" - the Peter Hughes Dive Boat? They would have been somewhere in the outer atolls so could have taken some time to get in which would account for the late arrival at bgc. Our thoughts are with you all.

I stayed up just to make sure all were ok, but I'm just so devastated to read about the losses. I can't even imagine what you guys are going thru/have been thru. It's not much, but many hearts are with you......
btw.... Does anyone know if Candy is ok?
