I know this is not a new topic.....but I've not seen any new post regarding the bridge....we'll be arriving on January 30th and were wondering how the bridge was coming along. Anyone have some pictures regarding the progress.

From this weeks Ambergris Today

[Linked Image]

The bridge is progressing rapidly and the completion date of January 31st is still very possible. There will not be a booth in the middle of the bridge as was previously stated. However, there will be posts placed in the middle so as not to allow any large vehicles over. The posts will be removable to allow vehicles across in case of fire or medical emergencies. There will be two lanes for golf carts and two lanes for pedestrians. This will end the long delays that occur during busy times of the day.

The picture looks great! Will it be a draw bridge or one that rotates to allow boats to pass through? Can't wait to see it, better yet to drive over it.

"Many's the slip twixt the cup and the lip . . . " So much for toll booth in the middle to keep larger vehicles from crossing (as was promised). The posts that will be placed in holes can/will be easily lifted out and how long before you think the big stuff will be coming across? Oh yeah - here comes the MASH dump truck - quick - pull the plugs and let him across!

The real question is not "when will it be finished?" but "When will it be opened?" Who remembers how long the new police station was finished before they were allowed to start using it? Had to coordinate the "official opening" with all the right politicos. With an election coming up I'm sure this will be much delayed.

I can just see it now - chains across the entrance and everyone lifting their bikes over them and going across. I'll get pictures of that.

I've had the same thought - removable barricades? who controls them?
