Yes, Belize Bank. It's on First street, easy to find.

Hello pabate,
I've never had any success getting money from the ATMs on Ambergris Caye, although I've gotten money from ATMs all over the world.

interesting, it is disappointing you have had trouble. I have never known anyone including myself to have trouble. TQ is correct, Belize Bank on first street and the one inside Richie's Supermarket if you are further north. (by the statue between two grocery stores.)

We never had a problem using our ATM card. Our bank, First Interstate, charged $5 per atm transaction from Belize, as opposed to the $2 they normally charge for using another bank's atm in the US. There was also a ATM usage charge by the Belize bank. Conversion rate by Wells Fargo in Nov was $1US = 1.98BZ.

First Interstate??? I didn't know they still had those? Huh.

I bank with Bank of America and I believe they charged something like $2 or $2.50/per transaction along with Belize Bank's fees. Pretty standard really. Don't forget that if it's $200BZ that you want, type in $200. I sometimes forget that the ATM thinks in "Belize dollars". I find myself withdrawling twice!

If travelers' checks are readily accepted, isn't that a better way to go?

LOL! I know. I don't think I will ever get used to "Sprint". It will always be "Nextel" to me. And "Valero"? "Diamond Shamrock" just sounds better! laugh
