Hi! This is my first visit to this board, and it's a wealth of information. Our daughter is getting married on Ambergris Caye in June, and there will be approximately 30 traveling and staying for a week. We have traveled extensively in Mexico and are very excited about this new adventure. Our daughter fell in love with her Fiance in Belize and he proposed to her last year when they were vacationing on Ambergris Caye. I have several questions -- can you buy brandy on the island and if so, what are the brand(s) and prices. Also, can you buy antibiotics or should we bring these with us. What type of bug spray works--do we need something with Deet? Thank you! We look forward to meeting lots of great people when we are there in June.

Bride's Mom, congratulations on your daughter's wedding.

My suggestion is to check with SimonB about the brandy question.

I am sure he'll be able to assit you with this.

There were several pharmecies that I saw on the Island, although I have no idea what the prices look like compared to the US. If there's antibiotics that you know you'll need, I'd say just bring them with you. Definetly bring anti-diahreha medicine!

You can most of the basic medications here - such as anti-biotics, the anti-diahorrea, pepcid, ibuprophen, valiums etc. But if you take specialized blood pressure medication, diabetic stuff etc. BRING THEM WITH YOU.

It can take days to get specialized medications in from Mexico or Guatemala.

Also, travel health insurance might be wise.

Bride's Mom-
Hehe, I almost thought this was my mom posting. I'm also getting married in June (6/24)in Ambergris Caye. Some of the questions you asked are the same I have. Now I have answers, thanks!

Good luck with your daughter's wedding!
Heather

While visiting AC a few years ago, we were invited to observe a wedding at Captain Morgans. It was without a doubt, the most beautiful wedding I've ever seen. Congratulations on selecting a most romantic island, and best wishes on the couples future.

I have another question (will probably have LOTS more). How much liquor can you bring into Belize? I will probably bring my own brandy. I have a friend in the liquor business and I can get it quite a bit cheaper here. Everyone else in our group will drink the beer and rum. I'm not picky -- just get sick if I drink anything else. Our daughter is getting married at the Tortuga House, but most of us are not staying there. Her fiance's parents rented the house, so they will all stay there. The rest of us are looking forward to just kicking back, doing some partying and getting to know everyone. Once again, thank you for all the info.

I've put my parents up at Casa Tortuga for a week for the last 5 or 6 years. You are going to love the place. Have a ball!..You've chosen well.
