I understand that there has been a lot of pica pica recently. Can anyone tell me how long these outbreaks typically last? We are planning to come down around Memorial Day and want to dive, dive, dive.

Typically Pica Pica outbreaks last anywhere from two weeks to a month. Make sure to wear lots of Sunblock so they slide off your skin. Also a small bottle of vinegar in your dive bag will help in case you get stung, just pour over the area.

I also use SafeSea. Google the name and order it online. It works.

I dove all last week and didn't hear anyone talk about pica pica. It comes and goes and every once in a while you run into it. Come down and have a good time.

What exactly is Pica Pica and what happens if you come into contact with it? Is it like a sea flea?

Belikin Bill-Thanks for the link. I grew up on the coast surfing and swimming, and have had these bothersom parasites more times than I care to remember, just never heard of them being called Pica Pica.Interesting.
