For everyone that is participating and dependent on this great website and the ability to communicate during times of Belizian emergencies I would like to make a request.
It's simple...
The government has a new website for emergencies which is good.
When you go to the site....there is a link for OTHER RESOURCES....clik on that and you will NOT see this thread or the Ambergris webpage that Marty has developed. I have nothing against Naturalite Productions, they do very good work. But this is supposed to be a Government site that has links to INFORMATION and I know that I speak for many of us who have depended HEAVILY on this forum for VITAL information during the past 3+ years since the bad hurricanes have started coming our way regularly.
I suggest that each send an email to the tourist board (CONTACT US) and politely ask that they include this ASSET as a link for people to go to during a bad event.
That's all....
Thanks again to Marty and all who have contributed in both information and money to those in need.

Chris, I just telephoned the BTB, had a chat with a nice young lady named Nicole Asher. I explained the importance of linking to this board. She is going to "discuss it" with her boss. Lots of politics here, apparently their concern is that "information be controlled" (her words not mine). I tried to be politic in explaining why that is not such a good thing, hope I succeeded. Remember that the BTB is THE GOVERNMENT so I guess its unreasonable for me to expect them to understand concepts like the free flow of information (vs. "controlling" same...)
Here is how you contact the BTB to express your concern: Tel: 011-501-2-31913 or email to

Here is the message I sent her with the link info after my call:

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I hope that you receive the OK to put links up to this vitally important web site right away.

To get to the hurricane message board, just go to // and click the "message board" box, then choose "hurricane information." You will see how much valuable information is being posted, questions answered, people helped, etc.

The link to the donation info is: // It tells you where the money is going and who will be handling it.

The secure donation page is:

Thanks for this information. I just want to add that I had more current and CORRECT information from this website than any of the people that I had contacted by telephone in Belize City and Ambergris Caye throughout the past 48 hours... and this was a complete lifeline during Keith. The U.S. media has been chalked full of errors and since Belize City was evacuated I couldn't get any information or calls in to the Embassy, NEMO, etc. until yesterday.

Hats off to MARTY and everyone who has been contributing... it is CLEAR that this is not a rumor machine and that people are working towards the same goals on this site!

I will forward a comment to the Belize emergency group PRONTO!!! Pepper Chastain

I couldn't agree more with the previous posts. Fortunately I stumbled on this site after two days of gleaning bits of info here and there from MANY different websites. Even the other bulletin board had little information to offer. It's a terrible, desperate feeling to have no access to good info on close friends in a situation such as this. The media in the states had almost no coverage on this, being totally caught up in the "war". When I return to Belize and my wonderful Placencia, I think I'll have to take a trip to the island to shake your hand and buy you a beer Marty.

Keep the pressure up on the BELIZE TOURISM BOARD!...Whatever THEIR politics are they are IRRELEVANT!....this is THE FORUM for real up to date information...occasionally there is a little misinformation, but the FREEDOM of communication quickly gets the REAL situation out to those of us that really care and want to KNOW!

you guys, this is ok, but lets not bang them around too hard right now.

its been a rough week, and lets like call them next week. i don't want to be a pest to them.

thanks christopher, just mentioning it raised my spirits more than you can know. I have tried for years to get just a link to from any BTB site. I asked nicely several times.

thanks for everyones kind words. When my wife gets mad at me ever, i can send her to this site and say see i'm ok.

I understand Marty...however the reality is...that FEW people will be reading and taking action in another week or two...just the reality of human nature.
I think now is the time....but I respect your's YOUR SITE!

A good plan of action, but, lots of you don't realize how much it costs Marty Casado personally to pay for the extra space used on this site as he has a fixed income from advertisers and his usage fees skyrocket in stormy weather.

To help Marty keep this site alive during the storms for all of us, send a check for 5 or 10 bucks to:

Marty Casado

Eugene, OR

And Marty, you pull this and I'll hunt you down myself...
