That's generally when they feed..... I remember at the end of one long dive in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve but outside the reef, not in the channel referred to above, seeing in the space of 20 minutes or so a hammerhead and a tiger shark just cruising around, watching us. We had decompression to serve out and couldn't exit the water, and although it was very interesting watching these two big sharks the experience was slightly more exciting than I normally like.

But JDT - we survived, as you will when I eventually persuade you to try it!

We did our night snorkels at HolChan, and we did see small lemon sharks on both night snorkels but they ran away from the lights. On our second visit to AC we saw a 12+ foot bull shark during the day at Shark Ray Alley, so I guess there is a chance of running into the big boys either day or night. Tulu has a great story about an encounter with a hammerhead outside of the reef when he was free diving for lobster. And I love his underwater hand signals for seeing a big one!

Thanks to all for your encouragement. I think that my husband is all for it now. We saw tons of nurse sharks at Shark Ray Alley last time we were there. It was scary, but it also gives you a rush to get that close to a shark. Maybe we will be able to see some other kinds of sharks and not become part of the food chain!!
