I am amazed today I visited the palapa bar and thet charged me 20bzd for four lighthouses-fair enough and I paid and apologised that I had no small money for a tip-I leave and pick up my friend who rents a house with his wife and take him to lunch at Caliente-it is closed-we go back via Capricorn(where we had two beers) to the Palapa. We stay a few hours the liscencee is there(Jim) and we are talking to him drinking, ordering food (very basic)-point out the french fries were cold etc.-he leaves we call for the bill -it is 185.00bzd-I ask for a break down-22 lighthouses-132bzd-2 Jager 28bzd-2 hamburgers 24 bzd- I pointed out I was only charged 5bzd per lighthouse a couple of hours earlier-I was told this was not possible-well on further discussion it appears locals get a discount (I own property on Tres Cocos there as does my friend whose wife does get a discount)-when we said can we have a local discount they said no as we do not come often enough to the bar. TRUST ME -I would never overcharge a client as this lot does -my advice is leave it alone -what a way to run a business-greedy to the max-ps we spent by the far and away the most amount of money in that bar and we will never go back-
My experience in the three times there is overpriced and so so service & food. The location is nice. And yes there are a few "screw the tourist" places in san pedro. I just go elsewhere.
I havent liked that place since Casey stopped runing n it in the old house with the big poarch. Now that was a fun place on Sunday afternoon,,, not anymore for me.
132 bzd/22 lighthouse beers = 6bzd. 6bzd a beer is too much? My other question is did 2 people really drink 11 beers a piece? or did I read that post incorrectly? No judgement... just in awe. On the other hand 28 bzd for 2 Jagers is crazy...IMHO Jager is swill and should be used only as toilet bowl cleaner. mo
This is sad to hear as the Palapa Bar was a place I really enjoyed and looked forward to visiting again in May. Is there someone from the Palapa that can explain these rates?
