I guess it is all subjective isn't it? Not returning a full week's deposit and renting the room right away for the same price doesn't strike me as being too ethical. I was there, I saw the rooms. They look like motel 6.

There sure seems to a lot in a name. As a repeated return visitor to Mata Rocks, I obviously strongly disagree with "Bombers" description of both the resort and Liz and Terry.

It is a small resort, that is one of its main attractions. The staff is wonderful and it would be hard to find a friendlier or more helpful group of people on the Island.

I've been lucky enought to meet some of the people who have posted on this thread, most are well pleased with and enjoyed Mata Rocks.

In my opinion you would be sorely pressed to find a better place to stay.

Some people just can't see the ocean for the coconut trees.

I had the pleasure of staying at Mata Rocks a few years ago. I had the corner room on second floor. Simple, clean and comfortable. The bar is great, the closeness to the beach is perfect and nice and quiet. Definitely Paradise.

My wife and I stayed there last fall for 2 weeks... would'nt stay anywhere else... Great breakfast. Free bikes, WONDERFUL service (Trust me, I know- I've been in the hotel business for over 30 years...) Plus they helped us set up 4 different tours and excursions and we were really happy with all of them. Man, I miss it !!!

I stayed there about 6 weeks ago. The room I stayed in was very nice. Monica (front desk) was very helpful and the bar was great, especially at happy hour. I was not very please with Terry (the owner) however, he screwed up on a reservation for us to do a day trip. We ended up not being able to go and left a black mark on an otherwise amazing vacation. He didn't even apologize or try to make it up to us. I did not think he was nearly as friendly as people on here said he was before we went. Because of that I am not sure I would recommend it.

I got back Friday morning from a wonderful week in Room 2 at Mata Rocks. I believe it is exactly as represented: a small, intimate, well maintained resort in a great location with an excellent staff; rooms have a fine sea view (not just a peek) from the lanai and/or the room. Not fancy -- but the prices aren't "fancy" either. For comfortable attractive sea view accommodations at a modest price, it's a treasure.

I'd considered Banana Beach also; however, a room there with a good sea view costs more. I would not care for a room in the courtyard section of B.B., as it feels closed in to me. Mata Rocks felt intimate AND at the same time very open to the Caribbean and the reef and all the things I go there for. I would definitely go back.

Belize Bomber, where is this Motel 6 with rooms like that???

Hi Xoe - Mata Rocks looked like a very nice place when we dropped you off after dinner on Wednesday night. We stayed at Xanadu, and it was awesome.
Our trip report is coming up soon, after we get the pics sorted through. I loved A/C so much, I would love to live there!!! Thanks for the pics, and it was wonderful sharing time with you there!
