This is an online donation form for donated funds to be sent to Placencia and the surrounding area if folks are interested.

We raised $40,000us that way after Keith. I will hold onto the charge data after input for a few days til I could determine the best way to get it to Placencia.

folks can also send $$ to Red cross noted c/o Belize Hurricane Fund.

$17,015 us raised as of 2 pm Belize Time Monday, 97 donations

This money will be sent to Belize untouched by any middlemans cut. We are going to send money down thru Frank Redmond. He is setting up a Barclays account just for these donations. He is out on the front lines today working with the Mennonites to bring relief to hard hit areas.

All funds raised by this list will be channelled through:

The Red Creek Mennonite Church,
San Ignacio,
Cayo

Pastor Frank Friesan
Tel 501 92 3722

Goods will be distributed throughout the Punta Gorda area through:

Caribbean Light and Truth
Punta Gorda

Tel 501 72 2344

The principle behind what we are doing is moving whatever is
purchased free. Labor for house construction will involve the new
owner with groups of Mennonites working as well for free.
Food and clothing will be distributed free.

I will have feedback from Punta Gorda by the weekend on the
suggested use of new funds, suggestions coming from the people of
PG. We are shipping another 3 tons of corn flour tomorrow, along
with other food items and clothes.40 ft container is going.

We currently have committments for the construction of 15 of the
$750 houses. We are waiting to see if this is the type of building
people want in general.

Thanks to all.

To whom or what address should one send donations if interested in the "direct" approach rather than the middleman system for goods and supplies in the rebuild of Placencia, Seine Bight, Monkey River. I have addresses for the federal agencies such as, IFRC, NEMO, etc. If at this point, donations channeled thru those agencies would be better, please advise.

from Chris Berlin: (this is what the donated money is being used for)

the mennonites have pledged to build 200 or so rudimentary 16x24 zinc roofed shelters for the indians at a cost of $us 400each. apparently they have this down to a science as they built over 2000 of them for the indians in honduras after hurricane mitch in 98.

the mennonites use the existing poles from the indian houses, square them up and then put on a galvalume corrugated roof. this is a hell of a deal for $400. I figured that at our wholesale cost, the materials alone, fob cayo district, would be about 2/3 of this price! The mennonites set up a staging area and pre-assemble the trusses before delivering to the site.

Update on Iris relief:

Marty sent US $7,290 yesterday.
Fund credited with Bze $14,580
This will build 18 more houses.

So far, 10 houses built, funds received for additional 25 plus Marties 18.
Total funds received have covered 53 houses.
Keep it coming, with thanks to all.

Activity Report.

Mennonites from Barton Creek, USA, Red creek are prepositioning supplies in PG and will have crews rotating as of Monday 22 Oct to build 50 houses per week.

It is important that we have available as soon as possible, all funds earmarked for the housing project, so that once we start, we continue until we have completed the 200 houses or even more!

My grateful thankle to Marty, Susan and Peter for helping in the raising of funds.

To the donors, words are insufficient to express fellings of gratitude for the help you are giving to those in need.

Sincerely,

Frank

(Note From Marty:
thats the first batch of funds, 7300, 18 houses, the rest of the $15,000 we raised is in the process of getting there as outlined above. Frank is getting donations from other sources also, and those are the rest of the 53 houses built he speaks of)
