I am a Canadian researcher who spent 5 months studying the howlers in Monkey River earlier this year. I am arriving in Belize City on Wednesday afternoon with supplies/donations from the University of Calgary. I would like know if there is anybody planning a supply run either late Wednesday afternoon or Thursday to Placencia/Monkey River who might have space to bring me down there. There will be two of us and around 6 bags of supplies. We don't have alot of money, but would be willing to contribute to the cost of the gas to get down there (around $100.00 BZE). Please reply here if you are able to assist.

Thank you,
Dana Nowak

Dana, Martha here of The Monkey House. I'm going to be arriving in Belize on Wednesday. My TACA flight arrives at 3:20 (thereabouts) then I will be flying to Placencia and looking for a ride to Monkey River. Let's see if we can coordinate our trip so we can go together. Email me at And, as you may well know by now, The Monkey House is now pieces & located 1/4 mile into the mangroves. We lost everything! Sam is still there. Also, we lost Sugar to Iris (our big sweet Rottie). Omar & Mia were with Sam last I heard. They lost the house on the river but have part of a concrete structure that was being built on the road side of their house.
