OK Kra-Z-K I'm sure that toughbunnyxx who has never been there yet is totally confused, especially since you pulled your post. North of the cut/south of the cut connected now by a bridge vs a hand pulled ferry it is still the Island of Ambergris Caye. You know the reason for the question which you did not answer--- ScubaLdy went to BC's for BBQ & no fire/no BBQ. You went running today & saw BBQ?????? Which is it? confused :p laugh

thanks for the clarification Windjammer -- much appreciated! Any advice re: excursions -- or is the weather too "iffy" to really plan on doing much besides occasionally boozing? laugh

Never know about the weather. Hopefully it will be great. Plan excursions once you are there. I personally go snorkeling/beach bbq/Caye Caulker, etc. with Tulu. You won't be a wimp & can go other snorkel places than Shark Ray. Ask Ana at Victoria House how to get in touch & tell her I said hi. Lots of good tour operators. As for mosquitos, well have been there with no problems & I am a "magnet" but last July was awful (rain & no breeze)!! Deet & nail polish do not work together. Lots of wonderful restaurants. Enjoy, relax, booze it up!

I pulled that as I gave info which must not have been correct, as of today. I went running past there today and there were the tables outside as normal for the BBQ and it was VERY busy there and many were eating. Aparently NOT the Sunday BBQ though. SO, I pulled the post to avoid confusion to others that it still exists as I now have no idea if it was just off today or canceled permanently.

Hope to run into you next time you are in our area out here, last time I had no idea I was talking to you and you knew you were talking to me but ya didn't mention you were you!

Toughbunny-
You HAVE to go snorkeling over at Shark Ray Alley - we arranged a trip for our wedding guests, and while some were scared at first, it was a blast. Everyone enjoyed it! The mosquitoes were only bad one day we were there (6/20-6/29), and take the advice from Windjammer - the bug spray will mess up your nail polish :-( . However, don't worry - you'll forget about the smell after a couple of days, and your honeymoon will still be romantic!!!!

You should definitely eat a meal at Mangos - the chef used to be at Victoria House and she's excellent. We also ate at Jambal Jerk in town - cheap but good.

We did the cave tubing/zip line tour - EXCELLENT. We also did Caracol - but only when we were staying on the mainland - otherwise it would be a very long day trip for you. However, it was awesome!! I never felt unsafe, although we did have military escort on the road there...they are not letting tourists go un-chaparoned.

By the way toughbunny - I remember your name from tripadvisor - and that you were from Maryland (I'm from Baltimore). The heat is worse here than down in Belize....and I think there were more mosquitos out yesterday here than we saw down there! Have fun on your trip.

Thanks for the info and good wishes, Heather! We're from Baltimore, too, and I can't imagine mosquitos being worse anywhere than here right now! Ridiculous!
PS -- I promise I will not wimp out and will at least get on the boat to Shark Ray Alley! laugh

Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan Marine reserve with guide Alphonso Graniel. Fantastic!!

I even do it twice each trip. A morning trip and and afternoon trip on different days.

You can try snorkeling at Ramon's pier, too. Artificial reef attracts pretty fish. Free.

We never miss breakfast at Estel's and dinner at Papi's every trip. Snorkeling is also a must do, we always do Hol Chan and Shark Ray Alley and also Mexico Rocks even though we are divers. Have a great honeymoon.
