Smokey told me the night Paisano passed on that Paisano told him that he would see him one of these days. Paisano passed almost immediately afterwords...guess their telling stories now. Smokey grew up in Stann Creek, now Dangrega, Belize. He told me that his childhood was made up of work and more work. He was very proud that he built a structure for his parents and that it was still standing...the last time he was there. He moved to Silk Grass...outside of Dangrega for awhile. When he arrived in San Pedro...his search was over...he was home!!! He worked many different jobs. My thinking is that his childhood, filled with hardwork, made his adult needs small. He loved people above anything else...and would remember folks for many long years after being away. Smokey was a great dancer...particularly in his earlier years. He used to tell me that he would dance every night, all night, during tourist season...and still open Rubies Cafe in the morning. San Pedro will not be the same without him, for me and his many, many friends. I am very proud to be friends with Jenny and Zobie...I know they gave made him a fine send off. Rest in Peace...Smokey!!!
