Are there many options for vegetarians or vegans in San Pedro or on the island in general?

Vegetarians yes, vegans might have a harder time finding a good meal since many dishes, although do not contain meat, are cooked with chicken stock or animal fats of some kind. (ie: refried beans made with bacon fat) Have your waiter ask the kitchen how its made. I'll just bet many people here do not know what a vegan is, so you may have to explain to get the right answers.
There are several vegetarians on this island so hopefully they will put their two cents in and tell you the best places to go.

I found a great place to buy produce was at a plce called the greenhouse,in town, just down front street. Probably the best selection of veggies if they wanted to pick some up on their own. Now for the meat eater....some of my personal favourites included Rico's at Banyan Bay, Carmaba's, El Divino at Banana Beach and although we never made it there last time, be sure to check out Jambel's Jerk Pit. I know it'll be my first stop when I head back in December wink Also....Casa Picasso has great pasty dishes!!! ENJOY!!

I was there about three long weeks ago, we eat at Eliva's and a chinese take out and Cilente's I think thats how you spell them, they were all very good. I think it will be a hard place for Veggies, if they eat fish they will be ok. I think the Vegetable fried rice at the cheap chinese places might work for them too.

The SoulShine Resort in Placencia features a vegan menu. (Won't help you if you are already booked/staying in San Pedro but FYI.) New owners just took it over so hopefully they will get it back on track. It had gone downhill a bit in the last few years as they tried to sell it.
