That's wonderful. I'm so happy that things are progressing for the little critters. I know Dr. Heather is excited. Can't wait to see it completed.
Thanks for the update, Marty.

Saga Humane Society Groundbreaking Ceremony

The official groundbreaking ceremony for the Saga Humane Society animal shelter was held this Wednesday, October 11th, 1pm, at "Fort Dog" - the site of the current shelter.
The Saga Humane Society, over the past year, has hosted various fundraising events and has received support from many members of the community and local businesses. This support has enabled us to celebrate the official groundbreaking for the construction of our new animal shelter.
Pictured here are: Mary Hawthorne, Sharr Lawrence, Natalie Swart, and Lori Prediger who are members of the board of directors of the Saga Humane Society; Heather Stewart the Saga Humane Society veterinarian; and of course, Saga's resident certified Canine Nurse Melly could not be excluded from the festivities. Whitman Williams is the member of the construction team pictured here responsible for the official ground-breaking. Several other members of the community came to show their support as well.
The new Saga animal shelter will have separate facilities for adults, puppies, and sick animals. It will also include an area where unwanted animals may be dropped off after hours if necessary. Here at Saga many of the animals that are "turned over" to the shelter are tossed over the fence when no one is around. Sometimes these animals are sick, or aggressive, and that can lead to problems with the animals that are already living at the shelter. With separate, easy to clean areas for different animals, and a drop off area, the Saga Humane Society Shelter will be able to provide a healthy and sanitary temporary home for the unwanted animals of Ambergris Caye.
Saga would like to give a special thanks to George Seagrist and his team, who are building the new shelter. Saga would also like to thank everyone who has and continues to support us - they are too numerous to mention here.

indygal,

Thanks for asking about the new SAGA Shelter. It is wooftastic and I am so proud of the human beings for doing this. They will be building the new shelter on the site of the current Fort Dog. Pop by for a visit and see what we are up to.

Kra Z K and 2Miles, thank you so much. I'll be panting in anticipation waiting for your visit. Tenderise your ankles.

Deacon,

You firey little Nurse Melly fan. You might have seen my other thread. Could you squeeze in some halloween prizes for the kids who help me care for the SAGA animals? Otherwise, a steak will do.
