JDT - Belize City is a place to avoid, but not the mainland in general. There is undeniably crime anywhere, but if you adopt a modicum of care you should find the San Ignacio area a great place to visit. Vastly cheaper than Ambergris Caye in all things, and with lots of interesting things to see and do nearby. Remember that Belize is a poor country, and ostentatious wealth will generate feelings of envy followed closely by resentment. Try to see life through the eyes of the people you're mixing with, take some basic precautions, and you should be absolutely fine.

I don't understand what JP is getting at either. I've struggled with many of his posts whichever alias he's posted under. I try to allow for the fact that he's French - not just the words are different, but the thought processes do vary according to what language you're thinking in. I used to live in France and was fluent, but I'm afraid JP has me lost.
