I am planning a visit this holiday season [I spent three weeks around Christmas two years ago] and would like some help finding accommodations. My wife and I will arrive Wednesday evening, December 20 at Belize City at 3:56 PM and will catch the first plane or boat to the island. We are not returning to the States until the early afternoon of Monday January 8, thus we will need 19 nights of accommodation. While we may take some overnight trips into the jungle, we would look to keep our accommodations on Caye Caulker for the entire period.
We are looking for a beach cabin with a private bath, porch/veranda overlooking the water, and with at least a refrigerator and perhaps a small stove-more for hot water for tea actually. There is no need for air conditioning, but fans are a requirement. We would prefer something on the quieter sections of the south, say the area below Tom's Hotel.
I know from this bulletin board that while Hurricane Keith did grave damage to the wonderful island of Caye Caulker, the island will be open for tourism this winter season.
However, I have been unable to call people on the island to try and arrange accommodations. I was hoping someone reading this board might be able to facilitate contact. If so, feel free to contact me at the e-mail or numbers below.
Thanks, and best wishes in this difficult time.
