This is a portion of an e-mail reply I just received from Jim, the owner of the Iguana Reef Inn. I contacted him direct through his business e-mail address. Thought I would pass it on.
Hi Jim,

Most everything is open here ... hotels, restaurants, snorkel shops, etc. ... the dive shops should be opening next week ... everyone has electricity, water, etc.
It feels like Caye Caulker again.

In case you missed my other posting:

I just returned from Caye Caulker. Electricity, phone and water have been restored to the front of the island. The internet cafe on Front Street (Cyber Cafe Caye Caulker)is back up and running like before. Many guesthouses and hotels are open, as are many eateries. The stores have food, etc. the clean up is well underway. The island is getting back on track and really could use the business generated from tourism. Don't be afraid to go to Caye Caulker, you will be treated like a celebrity, believe me! One other thing to note, many places have temporary phone numbers and the old phone number will just ring and ring. One way to get a message to Caye Caulker is to email it to [email protected] that's the internet cafe on Front Street (Caye Caulker Cyber Cafe). Moran, the owner is posting messages on a community message board that he has just started. So, hopefully this will help anyone who has been frustrated by not being able to get in touch with people on the island.

we were in Caulker for the hurricane...we were staying at Dane's house but had to leave during the storm as the roof came off...we went across the street and stayed with Chris and Destino and their three children at their house (CoCo Plum Gardens)

We left after the storm, but are returning when there is power and phones...we have been calling Chris for weeks and have not had an answer...does anyone know the status of the telephones on back street, and back back street???

we are eager to get back...so if anyone knows the telephone status...please let us know!!!

thank you

Try emailing Moran at the Cyber Cafe on Front Street at [email protected] it is possible that your friend's phone number has changed and the oldone just rings and rings. Moran will post a message for you on the community bulletin board.
