I read in Dr. Love's column that a young woman had been stabbed to death and also, that a grocery had been violently robbed in San Pedro. Yet, I can't find any news stories about these events. Since these events seem so unlikely to happen in San Pedro I am naturally quite curious as to the available details. Anyone?

Seashell - heard rumors when we were there 3 weeks ago but have also been at a loss as to other info. (I think someone in our group read an article in newspaper but I don't know which it would have been or when) ???

Yes there was a murder in San Pedro. It was Sat. Feb. 17. It was a domestic issue. They caught the guy right away. Some guy stabbed his common law wife. We were there then and we were sitting a the Palapa Bar and some of the local people told us about it. They sure didn't want the tourists to hear about it! There was a robbery also, they caught that guy right away too. Hey don't let it freak you out. The island is still safe and a wonderful place to vacation. I think we can all say we've had that happen in our home town too and we still live there.

I still think San Pedro is a safe place. I did meet a couple of people that I thought were pretty bad guys though and so I just wondered if it could be anyone I've met. Also, I wanted to make sure everyone had been caught. Please don't anyone take this the wrong way. Out of all of the people I've met in San Pedro, I only met one that really, really scared me and another that I thought was probably a bad guy. I do worse than than in one afternoon here in the City.

Hey Denverdan, the "police report" part of what paper? I couldn't locate anything on this except what I saw in Dr. Love's column.

I didn't realize that the San Pedro Sun contained more info than we get to see on the web. Perhaps I should subscribe too. Do you then get it mailed to you in hard copy or do you have a web version that you can go and read in full?

I'd go back tomorrow if I could. I was there three times in the past year with increasing lengths of stay each time. Things don't look quite as good for me this year though. I have to go to SE Asia in the fall. (that sounds funny doesn't it, saying "I have to") Suffice to say I have obligations that I am going to combine with a dive holiday and that puts a crimp in the San Pedro budget. Hopefully Xmas & New Years again.

I want everyone to know, that despite my asking the above question, I walked all over the place, often alone and lots of times at night, and only ever felt frightened once. That was the time that a young guy that I was already acquainted with, and found kind of scary, was deliberately attempting to extort some money from me by intimidating me (broad daylight). I didn't let on that he scared me and I handled it the same way I would handle a bully at home. I'm sure I was never in any real danger, I was just in an area of town by myself that I hadn't been in before so the whole thing made me more nervous than it deserved. That boy is, for sure, a bad actor but that doesn't mean he would have physically hurt me. He was just being his own nasty self. Sadly, there's people like that everywhere. I won't be sorry if I see his name in the Sun's "police report" and I'm sure it will be there; it's just a matter of time.:^)
