Hi , Im a 21 year old female from Canada and am so excited about visiting Balize in early september. I have heard so many great things about the place, so what do you all do for fun? And is it really true that you can swim in water with the sharks? What is the most happenning month for parties and swimming?I would greatly appeciate it if you give me some sort of ideas.

Hi 21,

Where are you planning on staying? The mainland or the cayes. If it's the mainland, which area are you thinking of? If it's the cayes, which one(s)? This info will help us to answer your questions.

E-mail me if you would rather handle it that way. I'm in Toronto.

See just how wonderful these people are that comprise this message board and AC???!! I sit back and realize I was once asking the same questions.....and as many more have followed, the same people continue to help and offer first hand advice, without becoming rude or belligerent or annoyed with us. Didn't mean to get so serious (geez!!) but I think most of you know what I'm saying........

21...Yes you can swim with Nurse sharks at Hol Chan..I found it one of the highlights!
They are like big puppy dogs..VERY non-aggressive..and they really like people..in a good way that is...hehe..the sting ray will come right up to you too...their skin is silky to the touch and I assure you that you will leave the water a changed person. I held the largest one I could find..just turned him upside down and he went to sleep...The only thing you need to be careful about is 1. Don't put your hand in their mouth..and 2. Cut your Fingernails..they can hurt them..
Enjoy
